Strong hitting and pitching leads Grande to Opening Day win

Updated Thursday May 4, 2017 by WBB.

Contributions from every hitter in the line-up plus solid pitching helped Grande defeat R&R Construction in the first contest of the 2017 PBRL season.

Opening Day Grande starting pitcher Jeffrey Brady was given an early 3-0 lead and set the tone by being a strike thrower from the mound.  Four additional relief pitchers held R&R in check, with John Bliss providing 3 innings of efficient scoreless work, and Tommy McSparren getting the final 4 outs as the very effective "closer".

Numerous players got on base and scored for Grande, highlighted by multiple hits from Bennett Mallinson, Cal Mahoney, McSparren (4 runs scored) and Bliss.  Frequent contact by every hitter, but not swinging at bad pitches, helped push the Grand run total to ten by game's end.

Mallinson also provided two assists on great throws from the outfield, and the overall Grande defense against R&R was very solid.
