Grande offense has break-out day

Huge 8-run 5th inning keys victory

Updated Thursday December 13, 2018 by WBB.

What started as a 2-2 game early, went to 9-3 in favor of Grande through the 4th inning, enabled by numerous R&R miscues in the field by balls put in play.  The solid lead allowed Grande to throw a new pitcher each inning to conserve their arms for upcoming games.  In addition, well executed double plays on hard struck balls to two Grande pitchers, John Bliss and Michael Gabriel, helped snuff out R&R rallies early on.  The 5th inning then saw Grande hitters bat around, with numerous hits and walks as multiple opposing pitchers struggled with control issues.  Tommy McSparren and Michael Sherman keyed the attack with five hits overall while every Grande batter reached base during the game.  A strike 'em out - throw 'em out double play, getting a runner stealing third base, ended the game with an exclamation point in favor of Grande!
